 Objective for the week (3/10/2021 - 3/17/2021):


The objective for the week is to implement the docking system into the dashboard. This allows a person to view the status of the docking mechanism and bogie for the charging station. Moreover, the objective is to mount the docking mechanism on the superway track.


Individual tasks:

  • Pedro Serenini:

    • Mount the docking mechanism on the superway track.

    • Assist integrating the devices.

  • Yit Voon Yap (Nick):

    • Mount the docking mechanism on the superway track.

    • Assist integrating the devices.

  • Phuc Tran:

    • Continue developing a dashboard/control panel for the charging station.

    • Assist integrating the devices.

    • Use SolidWorks to demonstrate/create the docking mechanism.

    • Work on the docking mechanism code to implement the docking system into the Node-RED dashboard.

  • Jacob Villanueva:

    • Track the progress of the IoT team.



Individual progress:

  • Phuc Tran:

    • Created a MQTT server for the design center.

    • Created a Node-RED dashboard for the charging station. 

      • The dashboard can connect to the MQTT server.

      • Will continue to further develop the dashboard.

    • Successfully connected the ESP 32 to the MQTT server.

      • The docking mechanism data will be sent to the server.

    • Created a scaled CAD model of the track to demonstrate the placement of the docking mechanism.

      • Will continue to work on the mounting.

  • Yit Voon Yap (Nick) and Pedro Serenini:

    • Utilized the ESP 32, linear actuator, ultrasonic sensor, and switch to create the docking mechanism.

      • Added 2 limit switches. 

    • Created the code for the docking mechanism.

    • The docking mechanism functions properly.

    • Measured the track dimensions for the CAD model.

  • Jacob Villanueva:

    • Continuing to work with Node-RED, researching GUI standards.

    • Defining specifications for charging station focused dashboard.

  Objective for the week (3/31/2021 - 4/7/2021): The objective for the week is to finish up developing the docking mechanism. Moreover, our objective is to complete as much as we can to present our updates on April 7th. Currently, the docking mechanism is fully functional with the dashboard. The dashboard is able to show indicators that explain the actions of the linear actuator. The team wanted to reorganize and compact the circuit and wiring so it would be easier to package it in a container. We attempted to compact the circuit and wiring on a PCB board however, we were unsuccessful. We decided to keep our circuit and wiring on a breadboard to prevent wasting more ESP32 boards. The team managed to test the docking mechanism on the bogie, specifically determining how the linear actuator will grab the bogie. The bogie will have a similar magnet that the linear actuator is using. This will allow the magnet of the linear actuator to grab the bogie by attracting the second magnet. Individ

Objective for the week (3/24/2021 - 3/31/2021): The objective for the week is to finish up developing the docking mechanism. Currently, the docking mechanism is fully functional with the dashboard. The dashboard is able to show indicators that explain the actions of the linear actuator. The next step is to reorganize and compact the circuit and wiring so that the docking mechanism can be tested on Monday (3/29). Individual tasks: Pedro Serenini: Mount the docking mechanism on the superway track. Create a CAD model for a box that will contain the electronics. Assist testing the docking mechanism. Yit Voon Yap (Nick): Mount the docking mechanism on the superway track. Compact the circuit and wiring of the docking mechanism. Assist testing the docking mechanism. Phuc Tran: Continue developing a dashboard/control panel for the charging station. Use SolidWorks to demonstrate/create the docking mechanism. Further develop the dashboard to monitor voltage and current of the 12V batteries used

  Objective for the week (2/24/2021 - 3/3/2021): The objective for the week is to complete as much as we can to show our progress for the presentation on March 3rd. Our goal is to develop a docking mechanism that will position the bogie in a specific spot for charging. The team will gather the necessary items to create the docking mechanism. Individual tasks: Pedro Serenini: Research and develop designs for the charging station. Gather the necessary items to create the charging station. Assist integrating the devices.
